You will find a small selection of reupholstered furniture for sale here on my website, and I also offer an upholstery service for your own furniture, if you would like to give it a new look.
Upholstery combines the masculine craft of woodwork, with the feminine skills of needlework. It requires both strength and delicacy. The appeal for me is taking a frayed and faded piece of furniture about to be thrown in the tip, and breathing new life into it. Replacing the old sagging seat with a taut firm one. Using my imagination to accentuate the beauty of the chair with fabric sympathetic to the period, or creating something far more exciting by using an unexpected fabric to upholster it.
I am finding that there are a lot of women(and men!) out there like me, who want to do something creative with an old chair that they have. I have just recently had a client who gave me an old sixties Parker Knoll and some colourful geometric designed fabric, and another lady with a lovely Ercol chair that she wants to bring up to date with some bright Marimekko fabric. These kind of jobs reflect the reason that I got into upholstery, and it gives me great pleasure to do them. I also have a lady who wants to have an old wing chair recovered in baby blankets, after having seen one in the Cath Kidston shop. What a fab idea!!
So if you have an idea for one of your own pieces, send me a photo, along with a description of what you'd like to do with it, and I'll reply with a rough estimate of cost.
I do most of the reupholstery myself, but occasionally when my workload is too heavy, I use a very good, small, local upholstery business.
For logistical reasons I can only undertake upholstery work in the West Yorkshire area.
All of the upholstery you see on this page was done by Eclectic Chair.
