I've recently developed a range of furniture upholstered with vintage French grain sacks which have been rescued from a mill in the south west of France which closed down over 20 years ago. The sacks were produced between 1920 and 1970 and bear the mill owner's personal stamp.
The colour and texture of the jute and the faded quality of the ink stamp work wonderfully well with wood, it looks lived in, but at the same time is extremely hardwearing, perfect if you have dogs or kids!
The sacks were in use in the mill for many years, so they sometimes have a small patch or stain, but this is part of their charm. They work particularly well with an industrial look, or a French country style interior.
The footstools cost £295.00 and you can decide which sack you would like from my current collection. They measure 100cm by 50 cm and are nice and firm and flat, in order to be used practically as a coffee table. They are made to order and can have either a chunky turned leg in either mid brown or stained black with Indian Ink which works well with the black print on the sack, or a turned brass castored leg.
The chairs are made to order, and depend on what styles of chair are available at the time, but you can email me at heather linnitt@yahoo.co.uk to ask to see what is in stock, or to be put on my mailing list to be informed of any new antique furniture that is coming in.
